In my work, there is no message or symbol, just a desire to communicate a sensorial experience. Sometimes the colors are soft, sometimes strong. The sharp lines that run through strong colors give rise to vibrations that sounds like music and punctuate the entire painting which becomes like a sheet music... a sheet music that generates an emotional reaction
— Annick Charnet

Annick CHARNET was born on August 9, 1954 in Nouméa, New Caledonia, where she spent part of her childhood. Her family moved later to Dakar, Senegal, where she received and imbued with African sounds, colors and emotions.

From 1965 to 1970 she achieved her baccalaureate at the Lycée Saint-Exupéry in Saint-Raphaël, before continuing her studies at the Faculty of Letters in Nice. During these years, she developed her creative imagination through visual art courses, museum visits, books as well as art magazines. She begun to paint by developing her own spontaneous working method. For her, artists are always free to invent what they want, without any boundaries.

In 1975, Annick followed her husband, a professor of philosophy, to Lebanon. She lived in Beirut for nine years. For her, it was an experience rich in sensory impressions. She discovered the refinement of the Lebanese culture, and visited frequently Damascus in Syria, as well as Jordan and Iraq. This was where she met the traces of Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Sumerian and Assyrian artists. The culture of the Middle East is therefore an integral part of her work.

Annick is today retired as preschool teacher, previously working at a school based in Cannes, France. It is in preschool that children start to learn about their feelings and emotions. With Annick they got to discover the constantly renewed pleasure of producing effects by playing with materials, shapes, colors and sounds… as she does on her own paintings.

Painting is adding censorial experience to how we communicate.
